  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Experience/aptitude in dealing with the public
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Candidate should have grade 12 education

Parks and Recreation Laborer


Job Title: Parks & Recreation Laborer

Reports to: Manager of Parks, Facilities, and Sanitation

Salary: $17.50 – $21.50 plus full benefit package after probationary period. Based on experience and qualifications.

Hours of Work:         Summer- 40 hours per week, 7am – 3:30pm, minimal evenings and weekends

Winter- 80 hours per 2 weeks, 10 hour shifts, evenings and weekends required

Location: Town of Carberry

Reporting to the Manager of Parks, Facilities, and Sanitation, the Parks and Recreation Laborer is responsible for the upkeep and overall function of the Parks and Recreation Facilities within the Town of Carberry and Municipality of North Cypress-Langford. General duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Summer:        –     Ball Park and Campground Maintenance

  • Park and Greenspace maintenance and upgrades
  • Cemetery work as required
  • Maintenance of Municipal Buildings
  • Tree planting and Maintenance
  • Grass Cutting and Trimming
  • Other Duties as assigned

Winter:           –     Operation and Maintenance of CPCC

  • Curling and Arena Ice Maintenance
  • Operation of Zamboni ice resurfacer
  • Operation of hand and power tools
  • Janitorial duties on a regular basis
  • Minor building repairs
  • Shift work: Generally 6am-4pm days, 2pm to 12am nights, 7 days per week, varying as the usage of the facility changes

Desired Qualifications:  – Refrigeration level Power Engineer certification

  • Curling Ice technician level 1 or higher
  • First aid and CPR Certified
  • Ball Diamond Maintenance training
  • Arborist Training
  • Experience working in a similar environment

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License (Class 3 preferred)
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Excellent people and communication skills
